What are the UK Sustainability Reporting Standards?
The UK Sustainability Reporting Standards (SRS) are the UK government's framework for sustainability-related financial disclosures. Finalised in February 2026, they are available for voluntary use by any entity that chooses to adopt them.
The standards comprise UK SRS S1 (general sustainability-related financial disclosures) and UK SRS S2 (climate-related disclosures). They are based on the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) standards, endorsed by the UK government with minor UK-specific amendments.
Disclosures are structured around four pillars — governance, strategy, risk management, and metrics and targets — covering material sustainability-related risks and opportunities that could affect financial performance, including Scope 1, 2, and Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions.
- Published February 2026 and available for voluntary use
- UK SRS S1 and S2 based on ISSB standards endorsed by the UK government
- Four-pillar disclosure framework covering climate and wider sustainability topics
Who do the UK SRS apply to?
The UK SRS standards themselves are voluntary. Whether reporting becomes mandatory depends on separate regulation, and the approach differs for listed and large private companies.
- Listed companies: the FCA is consulting on replacing current TCFD-aligned Listing Rules with mandatory UK SRS S2 climate disclosures from accounting periods starting 1 January 2027, with final rules expected in autumn 2026
- Large private companies: the government is expected to consult later in 2026 on potential mandatory requirements for economically significant companies as part of the Modernising Corporate Reporting programme — final criteria have not yet been confirmed
Even if mandatory reporting does not apply to your company yet, preparing early can give you a competitive advantage and help you stay ahead of evolving regulations.
